A mid-October dormitory fire at the University of Tennessee-Martin
was extinguished by the sprinkler system. A university police officer
and two students were treated and released, but there were no serious
injuries.
Between 150 and 200 of the dormitory’s 434 students were
temporarily evacuated, Martin fire chief Oran True reported. The
three-story dorm sustained some smoke, flame and water damage. True
said the apparent cause was a hot light bulb thrown down a trash
chute.
